Job summary

Leonardo UK is seeking an FPGA Firmware Engineer to design and develop embedded VHDL firmware for advanced aircraft sensor and communication systems. You will work on high-speed FPGA devices across the product lifecycle, from concept to early production, collaborating with hardware and software engineers.

The role covers requirements capture, FPGA design and verification, and documentation for design reviews, with a focus on safe, structured firmware processes such as DO-254.

Qualifications

• Experience in FPGA design and analysis.
• Development of embedded VHDL firmware for complex systems.
• Experience with FPGA test benches and verification.
• Ability to derive firmware requirements from system-level specs.
• Familiarity with DO-254 or similar firmware processes is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Firmware requirements capture and management.
• FPGA design and analysis.
• Production of documentation for engineers and design reviews.
• Development of FPGA test and integration plans.
• System integration with PCB designers and embedded software engineers.
• Support firmware designs through the firmware process.
