Job summary

Leonardo UK Ltd is seeking a skilled FPGA Engineer to join the Sensors product development group in Basildon. The role focuses on embedded VHDL firmware for advanced airborne electro-optics, working across multiple project stages from concept to early life production.

You will implement FPGA designs using Xilinx/Microsemi/Lattice, apply DO-254 processes, and collaborate with hardware and software teams while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with FPGA technologies from Xilinx, Microsemi/Actel or Lattice.
• Advanced verification using VHDL or SystemVerilog/UVM.
• Ability to specify timing and area constraints for FPGA implementation.
• Derive firmware requirements from system-level specs.
• Adhere to structured firmware processes such as RTCA DO-254.
• Experience with safety-related firmware (IEC 61508) is advantageous.
• Debug firmware designs and support hardware/system integration.
• Communicate effectively across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Capture and manage firmware requirements.
• Design and analyze FPGA logic.
• Produce documentation for design reviews.
• Develop FPGA test plans and integration plans.
• Collaborate with PCB designers and embedded software engineers.
• Support firmware design through the firmware process.
