Job summary

Leonardo UK is seeking Lead and Principal FPGA/Firmware Engineers to join our UK teams in Luton or Bristol. You will deliver complex firmware for our self-protection systems on fast jet, UAV, land and naval platforms, and may lead firmware teams across UK-wide delivery groups.

The role requires experience with FPGA architectures, modern design tools, and strong collaboration across disciplines. The position offers hybrid working with opportunities to travel for reviews and international

Qualifications

• An HNC/HND or Undergraduate Degree in Electronic Engineering, CS, AI, Games Programming, Physics, or Applied Physics.
• Design tools: Xilinx, TCL, Verilog, SystemVerilog, UVM.
• FPGA architectures: Xilinx 7.x, UltraScale; Intel (Altera); Microsemi (Actel).
• Interfaces: PCIe, Ethernet; JESD.
• Model-based engineering: MATLAB/Simulink.
• Derivation of FPGA/ Firmware requirements from system specs; RTCA DO-254 or similar.

Responsibilities

• Firmware requirements capture and management.
• FPGA design and analysis.
• Documentation for engineers and design reviews.
• Development of FPGA test and integration plans.
• System integration with PCB designers.
• Support firmware designs through the company process (training provided).
• Modify existing firmware designs and test benches.
