Job description

Help build S.W.U.G.'s public voice as our Founding Volunteer Marketing & Communications Coordinator. Use your marketing and communications expertise to grow our brand, engage our community and help create positive opportunities for young people across Portsmouth.

What difference will you make?

As our Founding Volunteer Marketing & Communications Coordinator, you will play a vital role in helping S.W.U.G. grow its visibility, reputation and community impact.

Your work will help us reach more young people, recruit volunteers, attract supporters, develop partnerships and raise awareness of the opportunities we provide. Every campaign, social media post, article and piece of content you create will contribute to building trust within our community and strengthening our public profile.

This role is about far more than managing social media. You will help establish the voice, identity and reputation of S.W.U.G. during its early stages, ensuring our mission reaches the people who need it most.

By sharing our story and celebrating the achievements of our young people, volunteers and partners, you will help create lasting opportunities that inspire participation, strengthen communities and support the long-term growth of our organisation.

As a founding volunteer, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the future of S.W.U.G. and leave a lasting legacy within an organisation committed to empowering young people through positive community engagement.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic and organised marketing or communications professional who is passionate about using their skills to make a positive impact within the community.

Our ideal volunteer will have experience in one or more areas of marketing, communications, social media, public relations or digital content creation. They should be confident producing engaging content, communicating with a range of audiences and helping to promote an organisation's mission and activities.

We Would Particularly Welcome Volunteers Who Have Experience Of

  • Marketing, communications or brand development.

  • Managing social media platforms and creating engaging content.

  • Designing digital content using tools such as Canva or similar.

  • Planning and delivering marketing campaigns.

  • Writing clear and engaging copy for online and offline audiences.

  • Working collaboratively within a team while also using their own initiative.

  • Organising their workload and meeting agreed deadlines.

Excellent communication skills, creativity and a positive, proactive attitude are essential. We are looking for someone who shares our commitment to supporting young people and strengthening local communities.

While experience within the charity or voluntary sector is welcomed, it is not essential. We value transferable skills, fresh ideas and a willingness to help us build S.W.U.G. from the ground up.
