Job description

We're on a mission

Every business grows through a CRM and a direct line to its customers. Healthcare, and pharmacy most of all, is the one place that never happened. It was too hard to build, too hard to distribute, and too hard to do compliantly. Customer data sits idle whilst running a community healthcare business continues to become structurally tighter.

We're on a mission to change that. We are the compliant data layer for community healthcare: the system that lets a pharmacy use the patient data it already holds to grow revenue and relationships, compliantly, on the clinical system it already runs.

This is already working. Pharmlogic is NHS-assured, integrated and lives in hundreds of pharmacies nationwide, and we've powered millions of patient communications.

The role

You will work directly with the CEO and founding team every day: deciding what gets built, building it, and owning it as it grows. There is no layer between you and the product, the customers, or the decisions.

Our stack is JS/TypeScript end to end: React on the frontend, Node on the backend, everything on Azure and we implement infrastructure as code throughout the process. We build fast and we use AI tools throughout the workflow, to move quicker, not to think less.

What does not move is the bar: we are looking for someone who works at the pace and quality of the best product engineering teams in UK health tech, and who wants the scope that only the first engineer gets.

The problems you'll own

  • Features end to end. From refining the problem with the team and our customers through architecture, implementation, rollout and everything the feature becomes afterwards. You own outcomes, not tickets.

  • Speed as a discipline. We ship multiple times a day, learn, and go again. You will set the patterns that let us stay fast as the codebase and the team grow: the architecture calls, the quality bar, the tooling, what we automate and what we refuse to build.

  • Software that is safe in a clinical context. Our platform touches patient communications and, increasingly, clinical workflows under NHS assurance and clinical safety standards. Reliable, intuitive and safe is the same standard here, not a trade-off against speed.

  • The platform underneath the roadmap. We are becoming the data layer for community healthcare: deeper NHS integration, our own clinical rails, and products that do not exist yet. The boundaries and systems you design now are what all of that gets built on.

  • Knowing our users. Pharmacies are busy, regulated, and allergic to tools that waste their time. You will talk to them, watch how they work, and build for the person at the counter, not the spec.

This could be for you if

  • You work insanely fast, and it shows in what you have shipped. You put things in front of users in days, learn, and go again, without waiting for a finished spec or a brief.

  • You are strong across the stack in TypeScript and React, or strong enough in one end to follow any problem across both, and comfortable running production systems on Azure or an equivalent cloud.

  • You can pick up unfamiliar code, use AI tools and judge their output critically. You know what to delegate to them, what needs your judgment, and what should not be built at all.

  • You own it. When something is yours, it happens: you influence the decision, disagree openly when you think it is wrong, commit fully once it is made, and own the result either way.

  • You hold a high bar under real constraints. You manage technical debt deliberately, you spot the flaw before someone points it out, and you know what great looks like in your strongest domain.

  • You thrive on the team's success. A customer win or a teammate's great launch does more for you than your own credit. Small team, shared scoreboard.

  • You share the vision. You believe every healthcare business should be able to understand its customers and improve care for them while staying viable. If that sentence resonates rather than reads as marketing, this will feel like your work, not just a job.

  • Experience in healthcare, pharmacy or another regulated domain is a real advantage, and genuine curiosity about it is essential.

What you'll get

  • £55,000 - £63,000 + up to £10,000 in share options

  • The scope of engineer number one: real product decisions, and an engineering culture you'll help define further

  • Private medical insurance

  • Flexible, hybrid working

  • 28 days of holiday plus bank holidays, and up to 4 weeks a year working from anywhere
