Job summary

Artificial Labs in London is seeking a founding Forward Deployed Designer to define and build a new FDD function within the Platform team. You’ll shape how the function works, hire and line-manage initial FDDs, and collaborate with Transform teams and customers to frame problems and ship platform-enabled solutions.

You will read and reason about domain constraints, write lightweight specs or wireframes, and push back when a proposed solution misses the real problem.

Qualifications

• You are a designer who thrives in ambiguity and constraints, someone who can bring structure, judgement, and clarity to complex, real-world delivery.

Responsibilities

• Establish the FDD function. Define the operating model, the patterns, and the ways of working from scratch.
• Grow and manage the team. Take part in hiring subsequent FDDs and line-manage them as they join.
• Join customer + FDE sessions early (problem framing and discovery), not only at reviews once decisions are already fixed.
• Translate requests into problems. Turn requests into user behaviours, platform approaches, and recommendations with trade-offs.
• Prototype and test ideas quickly using written specs, wireframes, workflows, or light code.
• Provide credible pushback when proposed solutions miss the underlying problem.
• Codify patterns and precedents to move knowledge into shared team infrastructure.
• Level up the FDE team’s design instincts through coaching and hands-on involvement.
• Use workspace signals to surface risks early.
