Are you passionate about shaping the future of local communities? We're looking for a dynamic and visionary Forward Planning and Housing Strategy Manager to lead our efforts in creating sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant neighbourhoods across the East Riding of Yorkshire.
Based in our Planning and Economic Regeneration service, you'll be responsible for overseeing the preparation of our Local Plan, from evidence gathering and consultation through to examination and adoption. The council has recently adopted our revised Local Plan, covering the period to 2039, and an immediate priority for the new postholder will be to set the strategic direction of the next Plan, identifying innovative approaches to plan-making whilst meeting challenging national and local housing and development targets.
The role also has strategic responsibility for housing including the development of our local Housing Strategy and associated policies relating to homelessness, empty homes and affordable homes, among others. Building strong relationships with registered providers and other key stakeholders is essential to ensure that our residents can access a range of housing options.
Managing a team of around 20 staff you'll be based in County Hall in the beautiful market town of Beverley. The Council promotes agile and home working, allowing a flexible approach to working arrangements.
The post will offer the successful candidate the chance to work for a proactive local authority that genuinely supports plan-led local growth, whilst also supporting and advising the newly formed Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority on strategic planning matters. You will be able to manage the diverse needs of a large geographic area with many different types of settlements and communities, giving the opportunity to get involved in a broad range of urban, rural, coastal and housing work.
The successful candidate will have a formal qualification in either housing or planning, along with extensive experience in either one or both fields. Membership of a professional body would be an advantage.
