Job summary

PHL Group seeks a Forensic Healthcare Professional to join the team at Hereford custody. You will assess and treat detainees alongside police, performing forensic medical examinations to gather evidence for the criminal justice system.

The role involves clinical assessments, implementing interventions, and maintaining detailed records to safeguard detainees’ health and welfare within police custody. Full-time, 42 hours per week including nights.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse or Paramedic with minimum 3 years’ service.
• Full membership of the NMC or HCPC.
• Must have a full UK driving license with access to your own vehicle for business use.
• Competent in oral and written English.

Responsibilities

• Deliver forensic practitioner services in compliance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and local protocols.
• Maintain accurate and complete timely documentation, including injury records and log all activities using current systems.
• Advise and support custody officers in assessing detainees’ healthcare needs and prioritising care, consulting the Forensic Medical Examiner as needed.
• Assess detainees’ fitness for detention, interview, understanding of charges and release.
• Evaluate alcohol and drug intoxication and withdrawal.
