Job summary

PHL Group is seeking a Forensic Healthcare Professional to join the York custody suite on a part-time basis. The role covers 23 or 32 hours per week with salary per brackets, plus weekend enhancements. Full training will be provided.

You will assess and treat individuals detained in Police Custody, working alongside police officers. You must be a registered RGN or Paramedic to apply. The post requires commitment to high standards of care and forensic examination framework.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering forensic practitioner services according to the Codes of Practice of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and locally agreed protocols.
• Keep accurate, complete and contemporaneous notes of work carried out, including recording of injuries.
• Provide advice and support to Custody Officers in determining the health care needs of detainees and the priorities of care; seek telephone advice and refer cases to the Consultant FME when required.
• Deliver a professional, responsive and caring service to detained persons in custody to support the Custody Sergeant and Officers in assessing healthcare needs and the care pathway.
• Determine an individual's fitness to be detained, fitness to be released, fitness to be interviewed and competence to understand charge.
• Assess alcohol and drug intoxication and withdrawal.

Responsibilities

• Conduct clinical assessments and implement interventions; collect forensic samples.
• Provide guidance to ensure appropriate care and maintain detailed records.
• Support Custody Officers in determining detainee health care priorities and pathways.
• Determine detainee fitness for detention, release, interview, and understanding of charges.
