Job summary

Altrincham Grammar School for Girls is seeking a part‑time Food Technician to support the Design & Technology Department. The role involves assisting staff, preparing materials for practical lessons, and maintaining equipment, with a focus on health and safety compliance.

Training as a first-aider is possible and CPD opportunities are available. Working hours are around two hours daily (1.45–3.45 pm) with flexibility to agree exact times to suit the school’s needs.

Qualifications

• Supports D&T teaching staff and helps plan and organize duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to the Design and Technology Department and organise duties for efficient use of time.
• Assist D&T staff in developing resources for teaching and learning.
• Ensure health and safety requirements are met under guidance of the subject leader.
• Assist in administrative duties in line with the teacher workload agreement.
• Maintain and monitor consumables and equipment in food laboratories; ensure accessible materials and processes for students.
• Carry out routine servicing and cleaning of machines; check safety and reliability.
• Prepare materials and equipment for practical lessons.
• Perform daily checks of machinery before use; coordinate safety inspections with external contractors as needed.
• Keep sinks/worktops clean; liaise with Premises Manager for cleaning standards.
• Familiarise with health and safety issues in food technology and assist with risk and COSHH assessments.
• Maintain stock records and assist in ordering materials and equipment.
• Transport materials from local suppliers when requested; manufacture storage equipment as needed.
• Carry out weekly material and equipment checks and document results.
• Support staff and students during lessons and advise on practical improvements to the classroom.
• Ensure the classroom is secure, clean and hazard-free.
