Food Service Assistant - Hospital Ward

OCS is seeking a Food Service Assistant to work in a busy hospital ward. The role involves a 2-week rota with a mix of early mornings, afternoons, and weekends, with a latest finish at 7 pm. Weekend shifts are paid at an enhanced rate of £14.44 per hour. Previous catering experience and a Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate are advantageous, but full training will be provided. The position is part-time, 24 hours per week, on a rotational schedule between Monday and Sunday, from 06:30 to 19:00.

Overall Purpose of the Role

• Work as part of a team to ensure the efficient and timely preparation of quality service.
• Assist in clearing meals and beverages for staff and guests.
• Adhere to company policies regarding customer comments.
• Maintain high standards of personal appearance and uniform compliance.
• Ensure brand standards are met and food presentation maximizes sales potential.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Comply with quality and standards policies in catering.
• Provide prompt and courteous service to customers at all times.
• Follow policies on handling customer comments.
• Maintain health, safety, and hygiene standards according to legislation.
• Complete and maintain due diligence records.
• Follow site cash handling procedures.

Role Details

• Deal with clients and customers promptly and courteously.
• Prepare counters as per management standards.
• Serve food and beverages at specified times and quantities.
• Have sound knowledge of daily menu items, garnishes, and portion sizes.
• Keep all areas clean and tidy, including tables, chairs, and floors.
• Assist with washing light equipment and clearing cutlery and trays.
• Help prepare sandwiches, salads, and vegetables.
• Clean servery, salad bar, beverage machines, and preparation areas regularly.
• Replenish condiments and sauces as needed.
• Perform any other duties reasonably required by your manager.
• Maintain vending machines on-site to SLA standards.

Educational & Professional Qualifications

• GCSE level or equivalent education.
• Basic food hygiene (Intermediate desirable).
• NVQ 1/2 in Customer Care.

Experience & Personal Attributes

• Experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential.
• Ability to follow policies and procedures.
• Willingness to report concerns via prescribed channels.
• Good team player and able to work independently.
