Job summary

OAL is seeking a Food Compliance Systems Auditor to join our growing team. This is a hands-on, field-based role auditing OAL Connected systems across customer sites to support retailer and BRCGS readiness and reduce packaging compliance risk.

You will combine audit expertise with knowledge of automated and digital compliance tools, identifying corrective actions, training needs, and improvements to enhance customer value and system performance.

Qualifications

• Hands-on auditing of OAL Connected or similar digital compliance systems in food manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of retailer Codes of Practice and BRCGS audit requirements.
• Willingness to travel across the UK with regular overnight stays.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for audit reports and stakeholder sessions.
• Ability to identify corrective actions and training needs.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Conduct structured compliance audits across customer sites against OAL standards and retailer requirements.
• Assess automated packaging verification, traceability and digital controls in live production.
• Review operator practices and procedures to identify risks and gaps.
• Produce clear audit reports documenting findings, risks and corrective actions.
• Deliver post-audit feedback sessions with customer teams to prioritise actions.
• Monitor and follow up corrective actions to ensure timely resolution.
• Identify training and competence gaps and suggest refresher training.
• Identify opportunities for small works or enhancements and pass to the appropriate team.
• Feed audit findings into Support, Training, and Product teams to improve standards.

Job description

OAL is looking for a Food Compliance Systems Auditor to join their growing team.

This is a hands-on, field-based role where you will independently audit how OAL Connected systems are configured, maintained and used across customer sites, helping food manufacturers maintain retailer and BRCGS audit readiness and reduce packaging compliance risk. The role combines food industry audit expertise with practical understanding of automated and digital compliance systems, identifying corrective actions, training needs, system improvements and opportunities to increase the value customers receive from OAL.

This is a national field-based role. You should expect to spend around three days each week at food manufacturing sites across the UK, with regular overnight stays. Some weeks will involve travel Monday to Friday.

Typical time split: 40% office / 60%+ customer site, with regular UK travel and overnight stays.

What you will be doing

• Conducting structured compliance audits across customer sites, reviewing how OAL Connected is configured, maintained and operated against OAL standards, retailer Codes of Practice and relevant customer requirements.
• Assessing the effectiveness of automated packaging verification, traceability and digital compliance controls in live production environments.
• Reviewing operator practices, system usage and site procedures to identify compliance risks, control weaknesses and gaps between the intended process and actual use.
• Producing clear, timely audit reports documenting findings, risks, non-conformances, recommended corrective actions and improvement opportunities.
• Delivering post-audit feedback sessions with customer Technical, Quality, Operations and Engineering teams, clearly explaining findings and priorities.
• Monitoring and follow-up corrective actions to confirm issues are effectively resolved within agreed timescales.
• Identifying training and competence gaps and recommend appropriate refresher training or knowledge transfer.
• Identifying legitimate opportunities for small works, system upgrades, additional Connected functionality or wider line/site deployment where these strengthen customer compliance or system performance, and hand these opportunities to the relevant OAL team.
• Feeding recurring audit findings and customer insight into Support, Training, Commercial and the Connected Product Team to improve standards, product capability and customer outcomes.

Full UK driving licence

Full UK driving licence required due to regular travel to customer sites across the UK.

Essential

• Practical experience using, administering, maintaining or auditing OAL Connected "The Olympus System" comparable automated packaging verification and digital compliance systems within a food manufacturing environment.
• Strong food manufacturing technical, quality or compliance experience, including involvement in retailer, customer or BRCGS audit preparation or delivery.
• Strong understanding of retailer Codes of Practice, audit processes and quality assurance principles.
• Ability to understand how automated and digital controls support packaging verification, traceability and compliance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distinguish root causes from symptoms and identify practical corrective actions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to present findings clearly and constructively to operators, Technical Managers and senior site teams.
• Comfortable working independently across multiple customer sites and maintaining professional judgement and credibility.
• Willing and able to travel extensively throughout the UK, normally spending at least 60% of working time at customer sites, including regular overnight stays and some Monday-to-Friday travel.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• Previous experience as an OAL Connected super-user, administrator, Technical Manager, Quality Manager or site technical owner.
• Experience conducting field-based audits, supplier assurance audits or retailer compliance assessments.
• Formal auditor or lead auditor qualification.
• Experience delivering training, coaching or competency assessments in a food manufacturing environment.
