Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant for roles in Bury St Edmunds and surrounding areas. You will support early years to key stages, work with individuals and groups, and help children develop literacy, numeracy and confidence.

We offer flexible day-to-day cover or longer fixed-term placements with competitive rates and a supportive local consultant to guide your schedule and school matches. All roles require safeguarding commitment, and a DBS check is expected.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children in educational, childcare, nursery, or community settings.
• Warm, patient, and encouraging approach with strong communication skills.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or equivalent preferred.
• Adaptable, proactive attitude with confidence to enter different primary classrooms.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

Responsibilities

• Provide support to class teachers in preparing resources and managing activities.
• Work 1:1 or in small groups to reinforce literacy, numeracy, and core tasks.
• Help children build confidence, focus, and social skills.
• Assist pupils with SEND by tailoring activities to learning styles.
• Support classroom management and positive behaviour according to policies.
• Supervise during breaks, lunchtimes, and trips as needed.
