Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant to support pupils across EYFS to KS2 in and around Saxmundham, East Suffolk. You’ll work day-to-day or on longer placements, helping with literacy, numeracy and classroom activities.

We value patience, strong communication and a proactive attitude. A DBS check and GCSEs in English/ Maths are preferred; the role offers flexible hours and local consultant support.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children in education or childcare.
• Strong communication and patient approach.
• GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
• Enhanced DBS disclosure or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to class teachers in preparing resources, managing classroom activities, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Work 1:1 or with small groups of pupils to reinforce literacy, numeracy, and core curriculum tasks.
• Help children build confidence, focus, and social skills, offering gentle guidance and encouragement.
• Assist pupils with SEND by tailoring learning activities to individual styles.
• Support classroom management and encourage positive behaviour in line with school policies.
• Assist with supervision during break times, lunchtimes, and school trips as needed.

What We Look For:

• Previous experience supporting children in an educational, childcare, nursery, or community setting.

• A warm, patient, and encouraging approach with strong communication skills.

• Good standards of literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Maths preferred).

• An adaptable, proactive attitude with the ability to step into different primary classrooms with confidence.

• A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).
