Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant to support pupils across Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 in schools near Ely and East Cambridgeshire. Roles range from day-to-day cover to fixed-term placements across a variety of primary settings.

Ideal candidates bring warmth, patience, and strong literacy/numeracy support skills, with a GCSE English/Maths background and an Enhanced DBS. Flexible schedules and local consultant support are provided.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children in educational, childcare, nursery, or community settings is desirable.
• Warm, patient and encouraging approach with strong communication skills.
• GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or equivalent) preferred.
• Adaptable, proactive attitude with the ability to work across different primary classrooms.
• Valid Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to complete one).

Responsibilities

• Provide support to class teachers in preparing resources, managing classroom activities, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Work 1:1 or with small groups to reinforce literacy, numeracy and core curriculum tasks.
• Help children build confidence, focus and social skills with gentle guidance.
• Assist pupils with SEND by tailoring learning activities to individual needs.
• Support classroom management and promote positive behaviour in line with school policies.
• Assist with supervision during break times, lunchtimes and school trips as needed.
