Job summary

Leo Academy Trust is seeking a Casual Playworker to plan and run engaging activities for primary pupils, set up welcoming play spaces, and support wraparound care across Cheam Common Junior Academy. You will serve snacks, monitor safety, and assist with holidays and short-term absence coverage.

Applicants should have childcare experience, DBS clearance, and be able to communicate effectively with children and parents in a friendly, calm manner.

Qualifications

• Patience, flexibility and genuine enjoyment of working with children.
• Sensitivity and understanding.
• Ability to stay calm when things get busy.
• Strong communication with a friendly, customer-focused approach.
• Basic IT skills for simple tasks on computers or handheld devices.

Responsibilities

• Plan and run play activities for primary-aged children.
• Set up safe play areas and equipment.
• Prepare and serve snacks and refreshments.
• Support children to develop socially and emotionally through play.
• Talk with children about worries or concerns and offer support.
• Manage fair behaviour and deal with minor injuries and emergencies.
• Build relationships with parents, carers and colleagues.
• Cover short-term staff absence across the Trust.
• Staff the holiday club during school holidays.
• Work under the guidance of the Wraparound Care team leader.
