Job summary

SMT Recruitment is seeking a Part Time Bookkeeper to join an established accountancy team in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. The role offers flexible hours and a focus on accurate bookkeeping, VAT, and client liaison.

You will manage bookkeeping for SME clients, process invoices and bank reconciliations, prepare VAT returns, and support the wider accounts team. AAT qualification or progress is preferred, with Xero experience.

Qualifications

• Experience in bookkeeping for SMEs and VAT handling.
• Proficiency with Xero or similar cloud accounting software.
• AAT qualification or actively studying toward it preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage bookkeeping for a portfolio of SME clients.
• Process and reconcile bank, credit card, supplier and customer accounts.
• Prepare VAT returns and supporting paperwork.
• Identify and correct discrepancies within bookkeeping records.
• Liaise with clients regarding missing information and queries.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records.
• Support the wider accounts team with bookkeeping and VAT queries.
• Work to internal and statutory deadlines.
