Job summary

The Prince of Wales Hospice Retail Shops in Pontefract is seeking Casual Retail Shop Assistants to join our bank of casual workers. The role offers flexible hours, working on the shop floor or in the stock room, with a focus on friendly, customer‑centred service and contributing to shop income.

You will operate tills, handle donations, merchandise stock, and support volunteers while upholding high standards of presentation and safety. Previous retail experience is valued but not essential.

Qualifications

• Retail experience and strong customer service and communication skills.
• Able to merchandise stock effectively and handle donations.
• Friendly, flexible and able to work independently.
• Willing to work across multiple locations local to the Hospice.

Responsibilities

• Operate the till and following correct cash handling procedures.
• Delivering excellent customer service at all times.
• Promoting Gift Aid and encouraging donations.
• Sorting and preparing donated goods for sale, including some heavy lifting.
• Ensuring merchandise is attractively displayed to optimise sales.
• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and presentation.
• Adhering to safe working practices and all Hospice policies.
