Job summary

Nottingham City Council is seeking a Workshop Support Operative to provide practical operational support within the Council's Fleet Workshops. You will help move vehicles, prepare them for service and maintain high cleanliness and safety standards.

The role supports technicians by handling non-technical duties, enabling inspections, repairs and maintenance to be carried out efficiently. A Cat C (Class 2) licence, CPC and fleet experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • Valid Cat C (Class 2) driving licence and Driver CPC qualification are required.
  • Experience in a workshop, transport, fleet or similar operational environment.
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety and ability to follow safe systems of work.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of vehicles (including HGVs) and ability to identify defects or safety concerns.
  • Ability to carry out vehicle pre-use inspections and basic maintenance checks.

Responsibilities

  • Move vehicles safely within the depot and to external locations (e.g., MOT centres).
  • Assist with MOT preparation and vehicle washing/cleaning.
  • Carry out basic vehicle checks and support housekeeping to maintain a safe workspace.
  • Complete basic documentation including defect reports and vehicle movement records.
  • Collaborate across workshop activities to support a range of tasks and maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety and compliance.
