Job summary

RSD Recruitment Ltd is recruiting an experienced Workshop Manager for a major passenger transport operator in East London. The role oversees daily workshop operations, leads engineers and support staff, and ensures high engineering standards with maximum vehicle availability.

You will drive health and safety, ensure DVSA/TfL/compliance, and work as part of a large, established transport organisation offering long-term career progression and a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Workshop Manager, Engineering Manager, Fleet Manager, Engineering Supervisor or similar leadership role.
• Strong background within commercial vehicles, HGV, PSV, bus, coach or heavy vehicle maintenance.
• Previous hands‑on engineering or technician experience.
• Excellent technical knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety, quality and compliance standards.
• Strong leadership, communication and people management skills.
• PSV experience would be advantageous, although candidates from HGV or other heavy vehicle backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Support the Engineering Manager with the day-to-day management of the workshop.
• Lead, motivate and develop a team of engineers, coachbuilders, apprentices and support staff.
• Ensure maximum vehicle availability while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Promote a strong Health & Safety culture across the workshop.
• Ensure compliance with DVSA, TfL and Department for Transport standards.
• Oversee workshop equipment, facilities and engineering operations.
• Drive continuous improvement across workshop performance and productivity.
• Support operational planning and engineering performance.
