Job summary

Metropolitan Police is seeking a Garage Hand / Valet in Fleet Services. The role supports vehicle maintenance, cleaning, tyre work and mileage logging to ensure a reliable police fleet.

You will assist with workshop administration, deliver vehicles for repairs and MOTs, and help keep the workshop clean and safe. The job requires practical knowledge of fleet operations, health and safety awareness, strong organisation, and the ability to work with staff and officers across multiple teams.

• Knowledge of tyre changing processes.
• Driving manual and automatic vehicles; driver entitlements desirable.

Responsibilities

• Administration Support - assist with maintenance processes and workshop admin.
• Vehicle movements - collect and deliver vehicles for warranty repairs and MOT tests.
• Vehicle checks - inspect vehicles and log book accuracy.
• Vehicle cleaning - clean interior and exterior to standard.
• Tyres - replace tyres using workshop tools as instructed.
• Workshop consumables - manage stock and liaise with Parts Team.
• Windscreens - fix repairable windscreens as needed.
• Mileage data - capture and enter mileage into Fleet IT systems.
• Workshop cleaning/maintenance - keep workshop tidy and safe.
• Workshop equipment - ensure tools stored correctly.
• Workshop Deliveries - inspect goods before delivery sign off.
• Health & Safety - follow training and wear PPE.
