Job summary

McCormick & Company, Incorporated is seeking a Laboratory Technician for a 12-month fixed-term assignment in our UK R&D Lab. You will support sampling, prepare materials, maintain stock, and ensure compliance with quality standards across the flavor division.

Responsibilities include conducting sensory panels, data traceability, audits, and collaboration with International Trade Compliance and QA teams to meet shelf-life and regulatory requirements. A practical science background is essential.

Qualifications

• Further educated to HNC or equivalent in a science subject (preferably chemistry / biochemistry). Practical experience of Good Laboratory Practices.
• Degree in Food Science / Nutrition would be advantageous.
• Relevant experience in a manufacturing environment working within Laboratory or Food Industry.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of SAP would be advantageous.
• PC literate as a minimum.
• Ability to interpret analytical and microbiological data.
• Willing and capable to learn new skills.
• Must be willing to work in a manufacturing environment.
• Effective Time Management Skills.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and to deal with constant changes.

Responsibilities

• Compounding of seasonings samples and applying seasonings onto base per requests. Assist in preparing samples for research, shelf-life tests and other requirements.
• Prepare and dispatch samples to customers globally meeting customs requirements, liaising with International Trade Compliance.
• Maintain laboratory stock of raw materials and ensure shelf-life and retention standards are met.
• Ensure activities comply with Company, Third Party and Customer requirements and KPI targets.
• Sampling and picking up of raw materials from the factory on site.
• Set up internal tasting panel for flavour evaluation and maintain tasting records.
• Attend routine sensory panels (R&D and Quality).
• Maintain data and traceability in lab systems for raw materials and finished products.
• Be cross trained to cover daily activities of R&D Lab and meet deadlines.
• Manage Third Party calibration of scales/equipment for R&D Lab to meet QMS, Regulatory and Audit requirements.
• Maintain a clean and safe Laboratory environment according to health & safety standards.
• Conduct internal audits (HACCP, quality systems, food safety, glass and Health & Safety).
• Support preparation and execution of External Customer and Third Party Audit programme.
• Lead or actively participate in continuous improvement projects.
