Job summary

Horwich Farrelly in the UK is seeking a Costs Litigation Executive (Fixed Costs) to manage a caseload of fixed recoverable costs and lower-value disputes. Located in Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds with hybrid working (1 day per week in the office).

You will review claims, assess costs regimes, negotiate settlements, draft applications and statements, and liaise with clients and counsel while maintaining timelines and quality.

Qualifications

• Experience in costs, civil litigation or insurance claims.
• Strong written and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload and meet deadlines.
• Clear communication and sound judgement.
• Collaborative yet able to work independently.
• Familiarity with fixed recoverable costs or costs proceedings (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of fixed recoverable costs and lower-value costs matters.
• Review underlying claim, procedural history and supporting material to identify applicable costs regime and issues in dispute.
• Prepare, consider and respond to Precedent U and associated schedules, evidence and submissions.
• Assess and challenge claims for fixed costs, disbursements and other sums.
• Conduct negotiations, make settlement recommendations and progress matters toward proportionate resolution.
• Draft applications, witness statements, written submissions and other procedural documents.
• Manage fixed costs proceedings, including directions, evidence and court liaison.
• Identify matters requiring escalation and seek supervision at appropriate stages.
• Prepare briefs and instructions to counsel when outcome is to be challenged or more advice is needed.
• Provide clear, timely advice to clients and substantive case handlers.
• Maintain accurate file records and billing information and meet performance targets.
