Job summary

Horwich Farrelly is recruiting a Costs Lawyer/Solicitor to manage complex, high-value costs matters arising from significant litigation. You will provide technically sound, commercially-focused advice across multi-track cases, with emphasis on costs budgeting, negotiation and detailed assessment.

The role requires experience in costs disputes, with the ability to guide junior colleagues and liaise with counsel. Hybrid working available with some travel to Manchester offices.

Qualifications

• Substantive experience in costs litigation, management or assessment.
• Ability to own complex matters and escalate when needed.
• Strong drafting and analytical skills.
• Excellent negotiation and commercial recommendations.
• Outstanding organisation to manage deadlines and priorities.
• Confident, concise communication with clients and stakeholders.
• Evidence-led approach with understanding of proportionality.
• Collaborative approach to develop the team.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of complex costs matters with autonomy.
• Analyse litigation history, evidence and costs documentation.
• Draft bills of costs, Points of Dispute, Replies and schedules.
• Develop strategies for negotiation, management and settlement.
• Advise on costs risk, funding, retainers and recoverability.
• Handle detailed assessment proceedings and directions with counsel.
• Draft precise instructions to counsel and support advocacy when needed.
• Build relationships with clients, lawyers, experts and stakeholders.
• Maintain file records and ensure billing targets are met.
• Contribute to training, precedents and knowledge sharing.
• Supervise junior colleagues on discrete issues.
