Job summary

GAP Group in Tilbury seeks a hands-on Plant Mechanic to service, maintain, and repair a fleet of plant equipment. You will work in depots and occasionally at customer sites to ensure safety and reliability, supporting customer satisfaction and equipment availability.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a mechanical role; plant hire experience welcomed as full training will be provided.
  • Experience with diesel engines is highly beneficial.

  • Full valid driving licence preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Servicing and maintaining a wide range of plant and tool equipment in the GAP fleet.
  • Diagnosing faults and completing repairs quickly to minimise downtime.
  • Updating service records accurately and ensuring safety compliance.
  • Occasionally attending customer sites for repairs and maintenance.
  • Supporting the depot team to maximise equipment availability and customer satisfaction.

Fitter (Plant Mechanic)

We're looking for a skilled and motivated Plant Mechanic to join our high-performing Plant & Tool division. If you're passionate about machinery, thrive on solving problems, and want to be part of a business that's growing fast-this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

As a Plant Mechanic, you'll play a key role in keeping our fleet of diggers, dumpers, and hand tools hire-ready. You'll carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs-both in the depot and occasionally on customer sites-ensuring our equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to go when our customers need it.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role offering real career progression in a company that invests in its people.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Servicing and maintaining a wide range of plant and tool equipment within the GAP fleet
  • Diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently to minimise downtime
  • Accurately updating service records and ensuring compliance with safety standards
  • Occasionally attending customer sites to carry out repairs and maintenance
  • Supporting the depot team to ensure equipment availability and customer satisfaction
What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone with strong technical expertise and a proactive approach, including:

  • Proven experience working in a mechanical role - candidates out with the plant hire industry are welcomed as full training will be provided!
  • Experience with diesel engines would be highly beneficial
