Job summary

GAP Group is seeking a skilled Plant Mechanic to service and maintain our fleet of diggers, dumpers, and hand tools. You will work in depots and occasionally on customer sites to keep equipment safe, reliable and ready for hire.

The role offers hands-on career progression within a family-run, UK-wide equipment hire leader, with extensive training and development from day one.

Qualifications

  • Proven mechanical experience in plant hire or heavy equipment environments.
  • Experience with diesel engines is highly beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Servicing and maintaining a wide range of plant and tool equipment in GAP fleet.
  • Diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently to minimise downtime.
  • Updating service records accurately and ensuring safety compliance.
  • Occasionally visiting customer sites to carry out repairs and maintenance.
  • Support depot teams to ensure equipment availability and customer satisfaction.

We're looking for a skilled and motivated Plant Mechanic to join our high-performing Plant & Tool division. If you're passionate about machinery, thrive on solving problems, and want to be part of a business that's growing fast-this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

As a Plant Mechanic, you'll play a key role in keeping our fleet of diggers, dumpers, and hand tools hire-ready. You'll carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs-both in the depot and occasionally on customer sites-ensuring our equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to go when our customers need it.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role offering real career progression in a company that invests in its people.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Servicing and maintaining a wide range of plant and tool equipment within the GAP fleet
  • Diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently to minimise downtime
  • Accurately updating service records and ensuring compliance with safety standards
  • Occasionally attending customer sites to carry out repairs and maintenance
  • Supporting the depot team to ensure equipment availability and customer satisfaction
What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone with strong technical expertise and a proactive approach, including:

  • Proven experience working in a mechanical role - candidates out with the plant hire industry are welcomed as full training will be provided!
  • Experience with diesel engines would be highly beneficial
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • A customer-focused mindset and a collaborative team spirit
  • A full, valid driving licence is preferred but not essential
