Job summary

Galliford Try Plc is seeking a Junior Fitter to join a two-person team delivering access metalwork solutions for water treatment customers across the UK. The role focuses on learning practical skills, working from drawings, and gaining hands-on experience with steelwork fitting and handrail systems.

No prior experience required; full training will be provided. You will need a UK driving licence and be able to work independently or as part of a small team while maintaining high safety standards

  • Ability to work from detailed drawings, marking and setting out.

Responsibilities

  • Assist install access metalwork on contracts across the UK.
  • Read drawings and set-out work accurately.
  • Install and fix steel sections, flooring and handrails.
  • Measure, cut and form handrail tubes.
  • Line up and level steelwork prior to fixing.
  • Drill and fix steelwork including handrail systems to concrete.

Role - Junior Fitter Location - Pontefract Purpose of the role: This is an entry-level opportunity to join a two-person team delivering Access Metalwork solutions for customers within the water treatment industry. Working across the UK, you will gain hands‑on experience, learn practical skills, and receive full training. We welcome applicants with little or no previous experience who are eager to learn and develop within the role.

  • Assist Install access metalwork on various contracts predominantly across the UK.
  • Have the ability to work from detailed drawings, marking and setting out.
  • Installing and fixing together steel sections, open type flooring and handrails.
  • Measuring, cutting, and forming handrail tubes.
  • Lining up and levelling steelwork before fixing.
  • Drilling and fixing steelwork including handrail systems to concrete. Eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Hold a UK driving licence.
  • Must be able to work in a team and on own initiative.
  • Have an interest in the work environment.
