Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking a Steel Erector / Steel Fitter to join a small team in the Sheffield/Chesterfield area, with National coverage. You will install access metalwork, interpret drawings and work on water treatment projects across Yorkshire Water and Severn Trent regions, delivering precise, safe installations.

You will hold CSCS, Confined Space, IPAF and other essential qualifications, and you’ll be committed to health and safety while reading engineering drawings and coordinating with

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid CSCS card (including Slinger/Signaller where applicable).
  • Confined Space trained and IPAF certified operator.
  • Trained in working at height and abrasive wheels certification.
  • Forklift/telehandler licence and SSSTS certification.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings confidently.

Responsibilities

  • Install access metalwork across contracts, mainly in water treatment projects.
  • Work from detailed drawings, mark out and set out components.
  • Install and assemble steel sections, open flooring, and handrails.
  • Measure, cut and form handrail tubing; align and level steelwork.
  • Drill and secure steelwork, fix handrail systems to concrete.

Job description

Steel Erector / Steel Fitter

Based in or around the Sheffield / Chesterfield area, working within the Yorkshire Water and Severn Trent region with national coverage support.

Job Description

In this role, you will work as part of a small team installing access metalwork solutions, primarily (but not exclusively) within the water treatment industry.

What you'll be doing:
  • Installing access metalwork across a range of contracts, mainly within the water treatment sector (though not limited to this industry)
  • Working from detailed drawings, including marking out and setting out
  • Installing and assembling steel sections, open flooring systems, and handrails
  • Measuring, cutting, and forming handrail tubing
  • Aligning and levelling steelwork prior to fixing
  • Drilling and securing steelwork, including fixing handrail systems to concrete
About you:
  • Hold a valid CSCS card (including Slinger/Signaller where applicable)
  • Confined Space trained
  • IPAF certified operator
  • Trained in working at height
  • City & Guilds Parts 1, 2 & 3 (or equivalent) preferred
  • Abrasive Wheels certification
  • Forklift truck and/or telehandler licence
  • SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme)
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Confident in reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence
  • Experience in a similar role or environment
  • Strong commitment to health and safety, with knowledge of SSOW and RAMS
