Job summary

Travail Employment Group is seeking a skilled Fitter in Doncaster to join a local engineering firm on a long-term rail contract. You will perform overhauls on wheel sets, inspect against drawings, and assist with wiring and testing in a production environment.

Shift pattern includes mornings and afternoons with overtime options. Applicants should be apprentice-trained in mechanical discipline with City & Guilds Level 3 or BTEC Level 3.

Qualifications

• Apprentice trained in a mechanical discipline, City & Guilds Level 3 or BTEC Level 3 qualification.
• Background in heavy engineering fitting (Rail - desirable).
• Good literacy (English), numeracy, and communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out skilled overhaul activities on wheel sets for the rail industry, including inspection, measurement, component overhaul, building of assemblies and system testing.
• Verify parts against drawings and/or standards using the correct tools and processes.
• Low level wiring of parts & assemblies (training provided).
• Adhere to product-specific procedures and complete quality records.
• Report problems and failures, suggesting improvements; work in a production environment to meet schedules.

Fitter

Doncaster £36,982 - £39,677 (mornings and afternoon shift) plus overtime

A local engineering company is proud to have won a significant new rail contract which offers a decade of employment, training and development opportunities.

They are looking for experienced and qualified multi-skilled fitters from any industry from automotive; motor vehicle garages and service centers to rail, aerospace engineering, manufacturing or production.

What is important is the maintenance of the positive, hard working and supporting culture on site and this will be looked for in all new recruits.

Fitter duties

• To carry out skilled, overhaul activities on wheel sets for the rail industry, typical activities to include but not limited to; inspection / measurement, component overhaul, building of assemblies and system testing.
• Verify parts against the appropriate drawings and/or standards which apply, using the correct tools and processes
• Low level wiring of parts & assemblies and some testing (training provided)
• Adhere to product specific procedures and complete quality records
• Report problems and failures, suggesting and implementing improvements where appropriate Work will be undertaken within a production environment, working to targets and deadlines to meet tight customer schedules

The successful fitter will

• Apprentice trained in a mechanical discipline, City & Guilds Level 3 or BTEC Level 3 qualification Proof of qualifications is essential
• Background in heaving engineering fitting (Rail - desirable but will accept HGV, Aerospace or motor mechanics) - essential
• Good literacy (English), numeracy, and communications skills

The benefits for fitters

• Starting salary: £32,728 plus 13% shift allowance (£36,982)
• Salary after training: £35,113 plus 13% shift allowance (£39,677)
• Overtime: Plenty of weekend overtime is available should you choose
• Hours: 37.5hrs per week; weekly rotating shifts with early finishes on Fridays
• Mornings: 6am-2.15pm Mon to Thurs, finishing at 11.30am on Fridays
• Afters: 2pm -10.15pm Mon to Thurs, finishing at 5pm on Fridays
• Holidays: 25 plus stats (usually 8)
