Job description

Job Title:Fire Safety Officer
Location:Derby, Derbyshire
Salary:Starting from £40,000 per annum

About the Role:

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Fire Safety Officer to join our team at a well-established housing association based in the Derby area.

This role is available due to replacing the current Fire Safety Office who is due to start flexible retire in July, which is a positive all they’ll be there to support anyone joining/ transitioning into the role. You will be the subject matter expert for fire safety across the association, doing all fire risk assessments, supporting tenants and vulnerable people on home review when situations change and doing fire safety on high rise buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

Fire Risk Assessment and Compliance:
Conduct regular fire risk assessments across buildings and facilities to ensure compliance with fire safety legislation, codes of practice, and internal policies.

Fire Prevention and Safety Planning:
Develop, implement, and review fire safety strategies, policies, and evacuation plans. Provide expert advice to ensure fire safety is embedded in all aspects of building use and operations.

Inspection, Maintenance, and Incident Response:
Monitor and inspect fire safety equipment and systems (e.g., alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting). Respond to fire-related incidents and conduct post-incident investigations to identify root causes and necessary improvements.

Person Specification:

  • Strong fire safety background
  • Someone with strong hands-on experience managing fire safety would be beneficial as they can learn from the current Fire Safety Officer
  • Extensive experience doing fire risk assessments in a range of buildings
  • Supportive and people focused – as dealing with vulnerable people
  • If you hold the NEBOSH Fire Certificate or equivalent that would be advantageous and if you are a Member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers that would be hugely beneficial.
