Job summary

HSE Recruitment Network is seeking a Fire Safety Professional to own fire safety across a large, varied estate with ~1,500 buildings and 40+ sites across the UK. The role combines site-based work with travel, focusing on fire risk assessments and safety management to raise standards.

As part of an established specialist team, you will engage with operational teams and senior leaders, challenging when needed and advising on Building Regulations and fire safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Level 4 Fire Risk Assessment qualification as a minimum.
• Strong professional fire safety experience.
• Extensive experience with Fire Risk Assessments.

Are you a Fire Safety professional looking for something more varied than an office-based role?

This is an opportunity to join an established specialist fire safety team and take ownership of fire safety across a large, complex and highly varied estate.

With around 1,500 buildings across 40+ sites, you won't be dealing with the same building or the same problem every day. From older buildings through to major new developments and complex engineering environments, there is plenty to get your teeth into.

What will you be doing?

You'll take responsibility for an allocated portfolio of sites, working closely with people on the ground as well as senior leadership.

Your focus will be heavily around fire risk assessment, fire safety management and improving standards across the estate.

You'll be:

• Leading fire safety across your allocated sites.
• Completing and reviewing Fire Risk Assessments.
• Identifying fire safety risks and making sure actions are followed through.
• Advising operational teams and senior stakeholders.
• Challenging the business where additional controls or investment are needed.
• Supporting new building and development projects.
• Advising on Building Regulations, Building Control and fire safety requirements.
• Working with site teams to understand the practical challenges they face.
• Building strong relationships while confidently providing challenge when needed.
• Travelling across the UK to support different sites.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who knows their fire safety inside out, but who also knows how to work with people.

Ideally, you'll have:

• Level 4 Fire Risk Assessment qualification as a minimum.
• Strong professional fire safety experience.
• Extensive experience with Fire Risk Assessments.
• Experience working with complex buildings.
• Knowledge of Building Regulations and fire safety legislation.
• Experience within defence, aviation, local authority, building control or the fire service would be highly relevant.
• Fire safety instructor experience would be a bonus.
• Experience dealing with senior stakeholders and leadership teams.
• The confidence to challenge the business when something isn't right.
• A diplomatic, practical and customer-focused approach.
• The ability to explain technical fire safety requirements in a clear and straightforward way.
• Flexibility to travel across the UK.

You'll need to be someone who can walk into a room challenge and questions in the right way.

Some of the buildings you'll be dealing with are older and present genuinely difficult fire safety challenges. Sometimes the right solution will require significant investment, and you'll need the confidence to make that case while maintaining strong relationships with the client and wider business.

You'll work closely with the people actually managing these buildings, so understanding the real-world challenges on the ground is just as important as your technical knowledge.
