Job summary

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service is offering an apprenticeship to train as a Fire Protection Inspector. You will help uphold fire safety laws in premises, contributing to safer communities across West Yorkshire.

The training is fully funded and delivered as an apprenticeship, with a clear progression path within the Fire Protection Team. The role starts on 4 January 2027, with several mandatory training dates.

Fire Protection Inspector (Apprentice)

Are you passionate about helping to improve the safety of the communities within West Yorkshire and interested in joining our Fire Protection Team?

We have a number of exciting opportunities available, where you could come to work every day knowing you are playing your part in keeping people safe from the risk of fire. These fantastic opportunities give you the chance to make a real difference to people in West Yorkshire, the Fire Service and the Fire Authority by joining an award-winning Fire Protection Team.

Our team uphold fire safety law in premises throughout the county, identifying breaches in fire safety legislation and utilising our statutory powers to bring about compliance. You could be at the forefront of helping us make a difference by making West Yorkshire safer.

We are looking for enthusiastic people who care deeply about fire safety to train to become Fire Protection Inspectors. You must have the ability to undertake a comprehensive training programme, work flexibly with minimum supervision to meet priorities. The training we provide will be fully funded and delivered as an apprenticeship in line with the role map for a Fire Protection Inspector.

Given the training requirements of the role, it is essential that candidates are available to commence employment on 4 January 2027 and must be available to attend the following key training dates:

  • 11/01/27 - 15/01/27. 1 day required.
  • 18/01/27 - 22/01/27. 1 day required.
  • 15/03/27 - 19/03/27. 5 days required.
  • 07/06/27 - 10/06/27. 4 days required.
  • 09/08/27 - 13/08/27. 5 days required.
  • 04/10/27 - 08/10/27. 5 days required.
  • 13/03/28 - 23/03/28. 9 days required.
  • 22/05/28 - 26/05/28. 5 days required.
  • 31/07/28 - 04/08/28. 1 day required.
  • 30/10/28 - 04/11/28. 1 day required.

We offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working. Whilst you will be required to work from our offices for parts of your initial training, after this you'll work both in the office and from home as part of our 'hybrid' working model. Therefore, applicants must have a reliable home internet connection.

The post is subject to a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service Check and the possession of a current valid driving licence.
