Job summary

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service in Essex is seeking a Fire Investigation Officer to lead investigations, support training delivery, and develop processes in line with regulator standards. You will cover county incidents and contribute to strategic training delivery for the Fire Investigation team.

The role requires travel across the county, attendance at regional meetings, and occasional court appearances to present findings.

• Experience creating and delivering training material.
• Ability to adapt training to audience needs.
• Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to develop in role.

Responsibilities

• Investigate fires within Essex and prepare notes and reports.
• Coordinate training needs for Fire Investigation and ensure structured CPD.
• Analyze fire trends and provide advice to inform Prevention and Protection messages.
• Review Tier 1 fire investigations and ensure correct reporting.
• Develop and monitor systems for fire trends with Essex Police and partners.
• Prepare policies related to Forensic Science Regulators Code of Practice and audit FI processes.
• Attend regional and national meetings; deputise for the FI Manager when requested.
• Occasionally attend courts to present findings from Fire Investigation.
