Job summary

Frazer-Nash Consultancy is seeking a Fire Engineering – Consultant to join our team across UK offices, delivering high-quality fire engineering services in regulated sectors including nuclear, defence, aerospace and clean energy projects.

You will hold a science/engineering degree with extensive fire engineering experience, knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, and be prepared to travel to client sites as needed. We offer hybrid working and a competitive salary range.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in science, engineering or maths
  • Extensive fire engineering experience in high-hazard or highly regulated industries
  • Experience producing fire strategies for complex facilities
  • Knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, Building Regulations, British Standards
  • Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or be demonstrably working towards this

Responsibilities

  • Provide a high-quality fire engineering service to clients
  • Interact directly with clients across regulated sectors (e.g. nuclear energy, defence, rail)
  • Plan and deliver work, including attending client sites across the UK
  • Carry out fire engineering work such as fire strategies, testing, design, and safety case
  • Project manage projects with accountability for resources and budgets
  • Contribute to business development and manage enquiries with clients

Job description

Fire Engineering – Consultant

Salary range: £55,000 to £70,000 per annum (open to discussion, DOE)

Location: Any UK FNC Office

Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer‑Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

Closing date: Friday 7th August 2026 (early application encouraged)

We are searching for self‑starting consultants with fire engineering experience. Previous work in high‑risk industries would be advantageous. You will join a team of experienced engineering consultants who specialise in a broad range of safety disciplines.

This role will provide opportunities to work in sectors such as nuclear, defence, aerospace and new markets relating to clean energy systems and renewables (e.g. hydrogen, lithium‑ion battery energy storage). Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a high‑quality fire engineering service to our clients.
  • Interact directly with a variety of clients across several highly regulated sectors (e.g. nuclear energy, defence, rail).
  • Plan and deliver work in an organised way, including attending client sites across the UK where required.
  • Carry out technical work in many areas of fire engineering such as fire strategies, fire testing, fire system design, and fire safety case.
  • Project manage a variety of projects with accountability for resources and budgets.
  • Contribute to business development and manage enquiries with both new and existing clients.
Requirements

Successful applicants will meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a science, engineering or maths subject (or equivalent).
  • Extensive fire engineering experience (desired in high‑hazard or highly regulated industries such as nuclear, petrochemicals, defence).
  • Experience producing fire strategies for complex facilities.
  • Expertise with UK fire safety legislation, Building Regulations, British Standards, and the latest industry guidance.
  • Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or be demonstrably working towards this.

It is to your advantage if you meet any of the following additional requirements:

  • Accredited degree (BEng/MEng) in Fire Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or be demonstrably working towards this, through the IFE.
  • Experience of working within a consultancy.
  • Experience of working on large multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Knowledge of safety cases in high‑risk industries.
  • Experience of fire modelling, such as CFAST or FDS.
  • Experience of undertaking DSEAR assessments.
  • Knowledge of clean energy systems such as hydrogen and lithium‑ion battery storage.

Due to the nature of the work that Frazer‑Nash Consultancy undertakes, candidates will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
