Job summary

Frazer‑Nash Consultancy is seeking a Fire Engineering – Consultant to join our UK team. You will provide high‑quality fire engineering services, engage with clients across regulated sectors, and deliver work on site and remotely in a flexible hybrid pattern.

The role requires a degree in a science/engineering/maths field and extensive fire engineering experience, including fire strategies for complex facilities. DOE salary and UK regulatory expertise are valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a science, engineering or maths subject (or equivalent).
  • Extensive fire engineering experience in high‑hazard or highly regulated industries such as nuclear, petrochemicals or defence.
  • Experience producing fire strategies for complex facilities.
  • Expertise with UK fire safety legislation, Building Regulations, British Standards, and latest industry guidance.
  • Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or working towards it.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a high‑quality fire engineering service to our clients.
  • Interact with clients across regulated sectors such as nuclear energy, defence, rail.
  • Plan and deliver work, including client site visits across the UK.
  • Carry out fire engineering work in areas such as fire strategies, testing, system design, safety cases.
  • Project manage a variety of projects with resources and budgets.
  • Support business development and handle enquiries with new and existing clients.

Job description

Fire Engineering – Consultant

Salary range: £55,000 to £70,000 per annum, subject to discussion and DOE.

Location: Any UK – Frazer‑Nash Office.

Working Pattern: Flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer‑Nash, with time split between the office, client sites, and working from home.

Overview

We are searching for self‑starting consultants with fire engineering experience, with previous work in high‑risk industries being an advantage. You will join a team of experienced engineering consultants specialising in a broad range of safety disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a high‑quality fire engineering service to our clients.
  • Interact directly with a variety of clients across several highly regulated sectors such as nuclear energy, defence, rail.
  • Plan and deliver work in an organised way, including attending client sites across the UK where required.
  • Carry out technical work in many areas of fire engineering e.g. fire strategies, fire testing, fire system design, fire safety case.
  • Project manage a variety of projects with accountability for resources and budgets.
  • Contribute to business development and manage enquiries with both new and existing clients.
Requirements
  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a science, engineering or maths subject (or equivalent).
  • Extensive fire engineering experience (desired in high‑hazard or highly regulated industries such as nuclear, petrochemicals, defence).
  • Experience producing fire strategies for complex facilities.
  • Expertise with UK fire safety legislation, Building Regulations, British Standards, and latest industry guidance.
  • Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or be demonstrably working towards this.
Additional Requirements (Desirable)
  • Accredited degree (BEng/MEng) in Fire Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or be demonstrably working towards this through the IFE.
  • Experience of working within a consultancy.
  • Experience of working on large multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Knowledge of safety cases in high‑risk industries.
  • Experience of fire modelling, such as CFAST or FDS.
  • Experience of undertaking DSEAR assessments.
  • Knowledge of clean energy systems such as hydrogen, and lithium‑battery storage.

Due to the nature of the work that Frazer‑Nash Consultancy undertakes, candidates will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
