Job description

Our client is an Oil Trading and Marketing business based in central London; offering hybrid working, and an environment which promotes long-term career development!

As the Financial Reporting Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, regulatory filings and internal financial reports. This role requires a strong understanding of IFRS and UK GAAP, along with experience in the commodity trading sector.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with UK regulatory requirements and best practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Prepare monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and UK GAAP.
2. Ensure compliance with UK regulatory reporting requirements, including HMRC tax filings, VAT returns and statutory accounts.
3. Coordinate with external auditors for year-end audits, interim reviews and audit queries.
4. Prepare technical accounting paper to support key accounting policies adopted by the company.
5. Collaborate with front office, risk management and operations teams to understand business transactions, their financial impact and assess the appropriate accounting treatments.
6. Provide financial insights to support management decision-making.
7. Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support financial planning.
8. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

1. Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
2. 5+ years of experience in financial reporting or audit, preferably within Big 4, commodity trading or financial services firms.
3. Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, UK GAAP and regulatory reporting in the UK.
4. Experience with financial instruments and risk reporting in trading environments.
5. Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyse large datasets.
6. Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
7. Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as SAP, SAP S/4HANA or Oracle.
2. Familiarity with trading and risk management systems such as Aspect, OpenLink, Allegro or Endur.
3. Experience with technical accounting research and preparing accounting paper on complicated transactions.
4. Experience with UK tax and regulatory reporting for trading companies.
