Job summary

Turley, based in Manchester, seeks a qualified accountant to lead financial control, compliance, governance, and operational finance across the organisation. You will partner with the Financial Controller to strengthen controls, drive process improvements, and provide technical accounting guidance to the business.

You will own a broad portfolio, mentor team members, report insights to senior stakeholders, and support strategic delivery through robust financial data and sound judgement.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA).
• Approximately 2–3 years post-qualification experience in Financial Controls/technical accounting or similar.
• Experience in audit environment is advantageous.
• Experience in people leadership or line management is preferred.
• Continuous improvement mindset with ability to strengthen processes and controls.

Job description

This is an opportunity to play an important role in the continued development of our Finance function. The successful candidate will have genuine scope to shape processes, strengthen financial controls and influence how Finance operates.

Based in our Manchester office, you will be working with a small team of qualified and part-qualified accountants at Turley and take ownership of financial control, compliance, governance and operational finance across the organisation.

About the role

This is a key role within the Finance function, providing an important link between day-to-day financial operations and the wider strategic objectives of the business. You will have the opportunity to strengthen our financial controls and processes, provide technical expertise and ensure we maintain a robust, well-governed and resilient finance environment.

Working closely with the Financial Controller and wider Finance team, you will take ownership of a broad portfolio of responsibilities, while working collaboratively with colleagues across Turley. Working in a busy team, you will act as an advisor to the business, producing and interpreting data, to inform, influence and ultimately to help drive the operational performance of the business as well as supporting and developing team members.

About you

• You will be a qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA)
• Have approximately 2–3 years post qualification experience in a Financial Controls Manager, technical accounting or similar role, ideally within a busy consultancy environment and be familiar with project management.
• Ideally have gained experience within an audit environment, either in practice or through a role with significant audit exposure.
• Have previous line management or people leadership experience.
• Have a continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify where processes and controls can be strengthened.
• You will be skilled in the use of Excel to an intermediate or advanced standard; some knowledge of Power BI will be helpful.
• You will have strong technical and analytical skills, critical thinking, and good attention to detail, to be able to achieve deadlines and provide meaningful information.
• You will have the ability to communicate effectively with non-finance professionals, to work on your own initiative and apply sound judgement are also key skills.
• You will combine strong technical knowledge and attention to detail with commercial awareness, ensuring work is accurate first time while considering the wider implication and next steps behind the information produced.
