Job summary

Accountable Recruitment Limited is partnering with a growing Wirral-based manufacturing company to recruit an experienced Financial Controller. This role reports to the MD and requires taking ownership of the finance function, supporting operational decisions and driving profitability.

The ideal candidate will be CIMA/ACCA qualified or qualified by experience, with a proven track record in factory or project costing, strong Excel skills, and a practical, hands-on approach.

Qualifications

• CIMA or ACCA qualification or equivalent experience.
• Proven senior finance experience as Financial Controller/Finance Manager.
• Experience in building construction or manufacturing sectors.
• Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.
• Commercially focused with a practical, hands-on approach.
• Experience with job costing, WIP, or manufacturing costings.
• ERP or finance system implementation experience.
• Experience in an SME or owner-managed environment.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly management accounts and close processes.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
• Provide meaningful financial insights for operational decisions.
• Carry out job costing, project costing and cost control.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, and supplier payments.
• Interact with non-finance stakeholders to communicate financial results.
• Support system upgrades or ERP improvements as needed.
• Act as a proactive finance business partner to senior management.

Accountable Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with a growing manufacturing company based on the Wirral to recruit an experienced Financial Controller. Reporting to the MD, this is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on, commercially minded finance professional who can take ownership of the finance function, support operational decision-making, and help drive business performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Full responsibility for monthly management accounts
• Preparation of budgets, forecasts and variance analysis
• Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes
• Produce meaningful financial analysis to support operational and strategic decisions
• Job costing / project costing / product costing
• Margin analysis and cost control across projects or production lines
• Work closely with operational and commercial teams to improve profitability
• Monitor WIP, stock valuation, accruals and provisions
• Maintain robust financial controls and processes
• Oversee VAT returns, CIS, and statutory compliance
• Liaise with external accountants, auditors and advisors
• Cash flow forecasting and management
• Oversight of credit control and supplier payments
• Support working capital optimisation
• Ownership of finance systems and reporting tools
• Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies
• Support system upgrades or ERP improvements where required
• Act as a key finance business partner to senior management
• Provide clear, concise financial insight to non-finance stakeholders

Skills & Experience

• CIMA or ACCA qualified or qualified by experience
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or similar senior finance role
• Experience within building construction or manufacturing
