Job summary

Chalk Hill Group in Winchester is looking for a hands-on Financial Controller to take full ownership of the finance function. You will report to the CEO and oversee day-to-day accounting, management accounts, cash flow, VAT, payroll, year-end, and statutory reporting.

The role includes intercompany accounting across the group, budgeting, forecasting and business planning, and driving improvements in finance processes and controls.

Qualifications

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent accounting qualification, or substantial relevant experience.
• Experience managing a full SME finance function.
• Strong technical accounting and management accounts experience.
• Good knowledge of UK VAT, PAYE and statutory requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisation.
• Ability to work autonomously and challenge where appropriate.
• Proficient with Xero and other financial systems.
• Excellent communication with finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the full finance function.
• Produce monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
• Manage cash flow, credit control, VAT, payroll and reconciliations.

Chalk Hill Group are partnering exclusively with an internationally operating SME, based in Winchester, in their search for a Financial Controller. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced finance professional to take full ownership of the finance function within an established and growing business.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll be given a broad remit covering everything from day-to-day accounting and management accounts through to cash flow, VAT, payroll, year-end, statutory reporting and financial planning. With operations across the globe, there's also an international element to the role, including intercompany accounting.

What you'll be doing:

• Taking ownership of the full finance function
• Producing monthly management accounts and financial reporting
• Managing cash flow, credit control, VAT, payroll and reconciliations
• Overseeing year-end accounts, audit and statutory compliance
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting and business planning
• Managing intercompany accounting across the group
• Improving finance processes, controls and systems
• Acting as a trusted business partner to the CEO

Your background will ideally include:

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA, AAT Level 4 or through substantial relevant experience
• Proven experience managing a broad SME finance function
• Strong technical accounting and management accounts experience
• Good knowledge of UK VAT, PAYE and statutory requirements
• Excellent attention to detail and organisation
• The confidence to work autonomously and challenge where appropriate
• Savvy with financial systems, particularly Xero
• Strong communication skills with both finance and non-finance colleagues
