Job summary

Distinct Recruitment is recruiting a Financial Controller for an established business in Mansfield. The role leads the day-to-day financial management and ensures senior leaders have accurate, timely and meaningful financial information.

Working with the CFO and leadership team, you will oversee management reporting, maintain a strong financial control environment and help improve the way financial information is produced and communicated across the business.

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA).
  • Strong management accounting and financial control experience.
  • Confident with senior stakeholders.
  • Able to explain financial performance clearly.
  • Proactive, organised and able to work independently.
  • Experience managing or developing finance team members is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly financial reporting.
  • Review budget vs forecast and highlight risks and opportunities.
  • Provide financial commentary to the CFO and leadership.
  • Business partner with teams to improve financial understanding.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and reporting.
  • Streamline reporting and reduce the month-end timetable.
  • Support year-end reporting and audits.
  • Manage and develop the Management Accountant.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis.

Job description

Financial Controller

Salary: Up to £65,000, with some flexibility for an exceptional candidate
Location: Mansfield
Working pattern: Hybrid, with 3 days per week in the office
Reports to: CFO
Direct report: Management Accountant

We are recruiting a Financial Controller for an established business based in Mansfield.

This is a broad and visible role, responsible for leading the day-to-day financial management of the business and ensuring senior leaders have accurate, timely and meaningful financial information.

Working closely with the CFO and wider leadership team, you will oversee the delivery of management reporting, maintain a strong financial control environment and help improve the way financial information is produced and communicated across the business.

The role will also involve managing and developing a Management Accountant.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Leading the preparation and delivery of monthly financial reporting
  • Reviewing performance against budget and forecast, highlighting key trends, risks and opportunities
  • Providing clear financial commentary and insight to the CFO and wider business
  • Business partnering with teams across the organisation to improve financial understanding
  • Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes, systems and ways of working
  • Streamlining reporting and helping to reduce the month-end timetable
  • Improving the efficiency and consistency of financial processes
  • Supporting the implementation of new controls and reporting improvements
  • Supporting year-end reporting and audit requirementsManaging, supporting and developing the Management Accountant
  • Providing ad hoc financial analysis and support across the business
The opportunity

This position would suit someone who enjoys maintaining strong financial control but also wants to play a more commercially engaged role.

The CFO is looking for someone who can challenge the numbers and turn financial information into clear messages for non-finance stakeholders.

There is genuine scope to improve existing reporting, introduce more efficient ways of working and have a visible impact on how the business uses financial information.
