Job summary

Sowena Group, a fast-growing business backed by private equity in South Manchester, is recruiting a Financial Controller. The role is broad and hands-on, taking ownership of the day-to-day finance function and partnering with the FD and senior leadership to improve reporting, controls and processes as the business scales.

You'll oversee reporting, manage a small team, support budgeting and cash flow, and provide commercial insight to drive performance.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong technical grounding.
• Experience in a fast-paced, growing business.
• Experience in PE-backed, acquisitive or high-growth environment preferred.
• Comfortable with financial control, management reporting and commercial analysis.

Responsibilities

• Oversee reporting and MI production.
• Manage and develop a small finance team.
• Prepare monthly reporting packs and analyses for senior leadership.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow forecasting.
• Develop and improve financial controls, processes and reporting systems.
• Provide commercial insight into performance, identifying trends and risks.
• Collaborate with operational teams to improve financial decisions.
• Support the FD with board and investor reporting.
• Assist with year-end audit and statutory accounts.
• Drive ongoing development of the finance function.
• Support wider projects associated with the company's continued growth and PE ownership.

Job description

Sowena Group are partnering with a fast-growing, private equity-backed business based in South Manchester to recruit a Financial Controller.

This is a broad and hands-on role, working closely with the Finance Director and wider senior leadership team. The successful candidate will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function while playing a key role in improving reporting, controls and processes as the business continues to scale.

The Role

• Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow forecasting
• Develop and improve financial controls, processes and reporting systems
• Provide commercial insight into business performance, identifying trends, risks and opportunities
• Work closely with operational teams to improve financial performance and decision-making
• Support the Finance Director with board and investor reporting
• Assist with year-end audit and statutory accounts
• Play a key role in the ongoing development and professionalisation of the finance function
• Support wider projects associated with the company's continued growth and private equity ownership

About You

We're looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a strong technical grounding and experience operating in a fast-paced, growing business.

You'll ideally have experience within a PE-backed, acquisitive or high-growth environment and be comfortable working in a role that combines financial control, management reporting and commercial analysis.

The successful candidate will be hands-on, commercially minded and confident dealing with stakeholders across the business. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take ownership of a finance function and play a significant role in a growing business.
