Job description

Finance Controller – Lloyd’s / Syndicate

London | Hybrid Working | Competitive Salary + Benefits

Ready for your next step in the Lloyd’s market?

I’m working with a growing insurance and reinsurance business with operations across the London Market, Ireland and internationally. They are now looking for an ambitious Financial Controller to take ownership of their UK finance function and play a key role in the continued growth of their London business whilst managing the team and developing.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants more than simply managing the numbers. You’ll have broad exposure across a Lloyd’s syndicate, corporate member and UK service company, with significant autonomy and a genuine pathway towards senior leadership.

The Opportunity:

Reporting directly to the senior finance leader, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the UK finance function and lead a growing team.

What you'll be doing

Lloyd’s Reporting

  • Take ownership of the finance function for the company's own syndicate.
  • Manage and consolidate data across approximately 30 individual programmes.
  • Oversee key Lloyd’s reporting requirements, including QMRs and SPFs.
  • Work closely with underwriting and wider business stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and accounting.

Corporate Member

  • Manage the finance and accounting requirements of the corporate member.
  • Review quarterly reporting and syndicate-level data.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of the corporate member's share of business.

UK Service Company

  • Oversee the finance function for the UK service company.
  • Manage payroll, contractor payments, office leases and G&A expenditure.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and reporting processes.

You'll ideally have:

  • Strong London Market / Lloyd’s experience.
  • Good understanding of Lloyd’s reporting, particularly QMRs and SPFs.
  • Strong technical accounting skills.
  • Experience managing, developing and delegating to a team.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Confidence working with large volumes of data and multiple programmes.
  • A proactive, commercially minded approach and genuine ambition to progress.

Why this role?

This is a role with genuine progression potential.

The business is growing, the syndicate is developing and the UK finance team is expected to expand. You'll have direct exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to take increasing ownership of the finance function.

The long-term vision is for the successful individual to potentially progress into a senior management / executive-level position within the next few years as the syndicate continues to grow.

If you're currently operating at Finance Manager, Syndicate Accountant, Syndicate Finance Manager or Financial Controller level and are looking for a role where you can make a real impact and build towards senior leadership, I'd be keen to speak with you.
