Job summary

Shorebrook Partners is seeking a Financial Controller to lead financial control and reporting across the business in the UK. Working with the Finance Director, you will ensure accurate accounts, robust controls, and compliant UK and Group reporting.

You will manage the finance team, oversee cash flow and planning, and drive Power BI adoption and responsible use of AI tools to improve insights and reporting efficiency.

Qualifications

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent qualification is required.
• Proven experience in financial control, financial management or senior accounting roles.
• Strong knowledge of UK financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and working capital.
• Experience supervising or developing a finance team and leading audits/tax compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end close to UK and Group deadlines with commentary against budget/forecast.
• Own general ledger, revenue recognition, balance sheet reconciliations and journals.
• Coordinate annual budgets and rolling forecasts, analyze variances and take corrective action.
• Assess profitability and evaluate capital expenditure cases.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, and oversee payables/receivables and credit control.
• Oversee VAT, corporation tax and statutory filings, and lead annual external audits or reviews.
• Develop KPIs (margin, debtor days) and drive Power BI reporting improvements.
• Lead and coach the finance team and promote responsible AI use in reporting.

Job description

Our client a high growth PE backed business is looking for a Financial Controller to lead financial control and reporting across the business. Working closely with the Finance Director, you will make sure our accounts are accurate, our controls are robust and we comply with all accounting, tax and statutory requirements, delivering reliable UK and Group reporting.

You will lead the finance team, manage cash flow and planning, and work with operational and commercial colleagues to improve profitability. You will also drive practical use of Power BI and approved AI tools to improve insight, reporting efficiency and financial control.

What you'll be doing

• Leading the month-end close to UK and Group deadlines, and producing management accounts and reporting packs with clear commentary against budget and forecast
• Owning the general ledger, revenue recognition and cut-off, and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals, prepayments and provisions
• Coordinating annual budgets and rolling forecasts, investigating variances and recommending corrective action
• Assessing profitability, and evaluating capital expenditure cases
• Monitoring daily cash flow, working capital and liquidity, and overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit control
• Overseeing VAT, corporation tax and statutory filings, and leading the annual audit with external accountants, auditors and advisers
• Developing KPIs such as margin, debtor days, and delivering reporting improvements through Power BI
• Leading, coaching and developing the finance team, including training in responsible AI use and Power BI reporting
• A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Proven experience in a financial control, financial management or senior accounting role
• Strong knowledge of UK financial reporting, balance sheet control, budgeting, forecasting and working capital
• Experience managing audits, tax compliance and statutory reporting
• Practical experience of Power BI reporting and applying AI tools to finance processes
• Experience supervising or developing a finance team
