Job summary

Harrison Holgate in the United Kingdom seeks a Financial Controller to lead day-to-day finance operations, ensure accurate numbers, timely reporting, and robust controls. You will head a four-person team, reporting to the Financial Director, and drive financial discipline across revenue, provisions, and working capital.

You will own the month-end close, RMAR reporting, audits, and regulatory submissions while strengthening controls and implementing practical improvements.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
• Experience in FCA-regulated business (insurance intermediary, broker or MGA), RMAR knowledge.
• Strong financial accounting, reporting and control experience.
• Experience controlling insurer balances and commissions (incl. cancellations and clawbacks).
• Proven experience leading a small finance team.
• Cash flow reporting and working capital management.
• Experience coordinating audits and statutory accounts.
• Strong Excel and reporting tools proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end close and monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
• Maintain strong balance sheet control with reconciliations and clear ownership of aged items.
• Oversee revenue/commission income, provisions, deferred income, cancellations and refunds.
• Lead cash flow oversight, forecasting, bank reconciliations, and working capital management.
• Control insurer balances and settlements including cancellations and clawbacks.
• Coordinate statutory accounts and annual audit, acting as main point of contact for auditors.
• Contribute finance input into FCA regulatory reporting (RMAR).
• Strengthen and document controls and drive improvements/automation.
• Coach and develop the Finance Manager and Accounts Assistants; be finance partner across the business.

Overview

A UK provider of property related insurance and support services is investing in its platform, data and finance function for the next phase of growth. As Financial Controller, you'll lead the day-to-day finance operation-ensuring accurate numbers, timely reporting, and robust controls. Reporting to the Financial Director, you'll lead a team of four (Finance Manager + three Accounts Assistants), setting standards, reviewing output, resolving complex issues, and continuously improving how the function runs.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the month-end close and monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and delivery to an agreed timetable
• Maintain strong balance sheet control: reconciliations, clear ownership, evidence, and resolution of aged/unexplained items
• Oversee key accounting areas including revenue/commission income, provisions, deferred income, cancellations and refunds
• Lead cash flow oversight, forecasting, bank reconciliations, and working capital management
• Control insurer balances and settlements including cancellations, refunds and clawbacks.
• Coordinate statutory accounts and annual audit, acting as the main point of contact for auditors
• Own finance input into FCA regulatory reporting, including RMAR
• Strengthen and document controls (authorisation, segregation of duties, review) and drive practical improvements/automation
• Coach and develop the Finance Manager and Accounts Assistants; be a go-to finance partner across the business

Must-Have

• Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
• Experience in an FCA-regulated business (insurance intermediary, broker or MGA), including RMAR and client/insurer money requirements
• Strong financial accounting, reporting and control experience (month-end, management accounts, balance sheet)
• Experience controlling insurer balances and commission settlements (including cancellations and clawbacks)
• Proven experience leading and developing a small finance team
• Cash flow reporting and working capital management experience
• Experience coordinating audits and preparing statutory accounts
• Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems/reporting tools
