Financial Accounts Manager / Finance Manager
This is a full-time Financial Accounts Manager / Finance Manager role on campus (full-time Monday to Friday), and you will be based at the following campus:
Eastgate House Campus – 40 Dukes Place, London, EC3A 7LP.
Salary
Competitive salary range of (£30,000-£43,000) based on experience and qualifications.

Job Purpose
We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accounts Manager to join our dynamic team. As the Financial Accounts Manager, you will oversee financial planning, reporting, and strategic account management across the various campus of UKCBC. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring financial compliance, managing budgets, and optimizing financial processes to drive overall business performance.
The role would involve ensuring that sound and appropriate financial governance and risk management arrangements are in place, preparing and monitoring budgets, and the delivery of Financial Statement. Alongside this, the role will involve supporting and guiding both operational and strategic leadership within the College and overseeing departmental and company operations, ensuring all projects are completed on-time and on-budget.
Duties And Responsibilities
The accountant will closely support the College Management in providing leadership on forecasting, management reporting, finance planning and analysis, and the maintenance of sound internal controls to protect the assets of the college. The role will enable the finance department to proactively meet the financial information needs of departments and will provide support in meeting the strategic goals of the College.
Strategic Leadership & Financial Oversight
- Support College Management in forecasting, management reporting, financial planning and analysis, and maintaining sound internal controls.
- Monitor financial performance and provide strategic recommendations to senior management.
- Create a department strategic plan aligned with the overall company-wide strategy.
- Understand and align with the strategic direction of the College to ensure finance contributes to broader objectives.
- Identify financial and operational risks (e.g., from HMRC, Home Office, competitors) and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Maintain and reconcile branch accounts across all operational sites, ensuring accurate consolidation into central financial statements.
- Liaise with Managing Director, CEO, and Heads of Department to ensure optimal use of resources and cost-saving opportunities.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee preparation and analysis of financial reports, including budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Conduct financial modelling and deliver insights to support decision-making.
- Deliver timely management reports, monthly management accounts, and financial summaries.
- Prepare year-end and interim financial statements, passing journals and preparing audit files.
- Lead the budgeting and cash flow forecasting processes.
Audit, Tax, and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards across all divisions.
- Act as the College's tax advisor for PAYE, VAT, and Corporation Tax matters.
- Review and update financial procedures and practices to ensure legal compliance.
- Be the main contact for external auditors to ensure smooth and timely audits.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies such as HMRC, Student Loans Company, local authorities, and awarding bodies (e.g., OfS) as needed.
Finance Operations & Internal Controls
- Manage the full range of finance functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, debt management, and general finance systems.
- Maintain accurate records of student account balances, issuing invoices and receipts as required.
- Manage and reconcile bank accounts, student loan accounts, and petty cash.
- Ensure internal control systems are maintained and improved (e.g., petty cash, BACS, payroll, asset register, stock control, commission claims).
- Update purchase and sales ledgers and post month-end journals.
Receivables & Credit Control
- Liaise with university partners and accounts teams to manage receivables efficiently.
- Supervise and manage credit control to ensure timely collection of student instalments.
- Review customer accounts and assess potential bad debts.
HR & Facilities Management
- Manage the activities of the HR and Facilities departments, ensuring best practices are followed.
- Perform HR duties such as onboarding, preparing contracts, updating the HR portal, tracking holidays, and maintaining complete employee files.
- Liaise with external consultants on HR matters, including disciplinary letters and employee handbook development.
- Assist in designing job descriptions, performance reviews, and staff training.
Payroll & Staff Cost Management
- Process monthly payroll and submit RTI returns to HMRC.
- Generate payroll analysis and update relevant systems.
- Monitor and report on staff-related financials, ensuring alignment with budget.
External & Stakeholder Relations
- Liaise with external stakeholders including HMRC, auditors, partner institutes, consultants, local councils, and leasing companies to manage financial and operational matters.
- Negotiate prices, hourly rates, and commissions with suppliers and consultants.
- Maintain strong relationships with partner universities, external agencies, and internal departments.
Project, Committee, and Cross-Departmental Support
- Provide project management support including timeline oversight, cost monitoring, and client engagement.
- Collaborate across departments to support business objectives and operational efficiency.
- Participate in or chair committees as required.
- Assist with activities related to regulatory and awarding body reviews.
Requirements:
Qualifications And Experience
- Proven financial accounting experience with a clear record of career progression.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in financial management or accounting roles preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems preferred; experience with Tribal applications is an added advantage.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
- Proven track record of managing financial accounts and driving business performance.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Experience in communicating financial matters to non-finance staff is desirable.
- Flexible and customer-focused, with the ability to understand and respond quickly to the needs of academic and administrative departments.
