Job summary

SF Partners are supporting a charity in Birmingham by appointing an experienced Financial Accounting Manager. You will lead the financial accounting function, ensuring robust reporting, controls, and HMRC-compliant VAT returns, while shaping systems and processes for improved efficiency.

You'll work closely with SLT and budget holders to deliver timely month-end and year-end reporting and drive continuous improvement across the finance function.

Qualifications

• Experience leading financial accounting and reporting teams.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a finance function.
• Knowledge of VAT compliance and regulatory reporting.

Responsibilities

• Own a broad range of financial accounting activities across Finance and senior stakeholders.
• Lead accurate month-end and year-end reporting.
• Own balance sheet reconciliations and key control accounts.
• Prepare and review VAT returns for HMRC compliance.
• Support statutory accounts preparation and liaise with auditors.
• Provide technical accounting guidance across Finance.
• Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable with strong controls.
• Support treasury management, cash-flow monitoring and planning.
• Ensure integrity of financial systems and data.
• Identify opportunities to improve controls, reporting and efficiency.
• Lead finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead, coach and develop finance team members.
• Build relationships with budget holders and senior stakeholders.

They are looking for an experienced Financial Accounting Manager to join a complex and purpose-driven organisation, working closely with the SLT. This is a key leadership role with responsibility for ensuring robust financial reporting, strong financial controls and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

You’ll play a central role in the smooth running of the financial accounting function, while also helping to shape and improve systems, processes and ways of working.

Key tasks:

• You’ll take ownership of a broad range of financial accounting activities, working closely with colleagues across Finance, operational teams and senior stakeholders.
• Leading accurate and timely month-end and year-end reporting.
• Owning balance sheet reconciliations and key control accounts, ensuring strong financial control.
• Preparing and reviewing VAT returns, ensuring full compliance with HMRC requirements.
• Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts and acting as a key contact for internal and external auditors.
• Providing technical accounting advice and guidance across the Finance function.
• Overseeing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, ensuring effective controls and high service standards.
• Supporting treasury management, cash-flow monitoring and financial planning.
• Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial systems and data.
