The role covers financial accounting, management accounting, tax, budgeting and business partnering within a small finance team. Financial Accountant (Financial & Management Accounting)

• Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire (Hybrid - 3 Days Office / 2 WFH) - Free Parking
• Up to £60,000 + 10% Bonus + 6% Employer's Pension + 25 Days Holiday (plus bank holidays)

An excellent opportunity for a qualified Financial Accountant or Management Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), either currently working in industry or looking to make the move from accountancy practice, to take on a broad accounting role with the opportunity to develop a genuine specialism in tax.

Our client is an ambitious, growing UK business offering the opportunity to work closely with senior finance leadership, take ownership of your own responsibilities and help develop the finance function as the business evolves.

You don't need to be a tax expert! We're looking for someone with strong financial and/or management accounting experience, good commercial awareness and a genuine interest in developing their knowledge across different areas of taxation.

The Opportunity:

Reporting into the Financial Controller and working closely with the Finance Director, you'll join a small, collaborative finance team, working alongside another Financial Accountant with responsibility for your own portfolio of Group companies. You will also work closely with the outsourced transactional / bookkeeping team.

It's a broad, hands-on role combining financial accounting, management accounts, financial reporting, tax, budgeting, cash flow and business partnering, with the opportunity to get involved in projects and process improvements.

The tax element is a particularly interesting part of the role. You'll have the opportunity to develop broader technical knowledge and take on increasing responsibility as your experience grows.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Preparation and review of monthly management accounts, including month-end reporting, journals, accruals and prepayments
• Balance sheet reconciliations, financial controls and maintaining accurate financial records
• Financial reporting, variance analysis and commentary on business performance
• Assisting with year-end audit, statutory accounts preparation and liaison with external auditors
• VAT, Corporation Tax, PAYE and other tax compliance requirements
• Developing your knowledge of Capital Gains Tax and tax considerations relating to business transactions
• Working with external tax advisers, identifying tax risks and opportunities
• Cash-flow forecasting, budgeting, forecasting and working capital management
• Financial analysis, management information and commercial business partnering
• Improving financial processes, reporting and controls

What We're Looking For:

We're looking for a qualified Financial Accountant or Management Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), either with experience in industry or currently working in accountancy practice and looking to make the move into a commercial business environment.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Strong financial accounting and/or management accounting experience, including month-end reporting and preparation of management accounts
• Good understanding of balance sheet reconciliations, financial controls and accounting principles
• Experience supporting statutory accounts and external audit
• Previous tax exposure, either through industry or accountancy practice, ideally with some additional tax training or exams, and a genuine interest in developing further
• Excellent Excel skills and confidence using financial systems
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with finance and non-finance stakeholders
• A proactive, organised approach and willingness to improve processes and reporting
