Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with substantial experience in financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Experience in local government, public sector finance, or property-related financial management.
• Strong influencing and business partnering skills; capable of challenging expenditure.
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling capabilities.
• Ability to interpret complex financial data and provide clear recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation, monitoring, and review of revenue and capital budgets to ensure strong financial control.
• Develop accurate monthly, quarterly, and medium-term financial forecasts, considering property disposals, income variations, capital investments, and emerging financial pressures.
• Provide insightful financial analysis and management information to senior managers, directors, and elected members.
• Highlight risks, variances, savings opportunities, and areas that require proactive action.
• Act as the lead finance business partner for Property Services, supporting budget holders and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, accounting standards, and organisational policies.

About the Role

Financial Accountant

The Financial Accountant will be responsible for supporting the Property Services function by realigning revenue and capital budgets, forecasting Medium-Term Financial Strategy (MTFS), and challenging expenditure assumptions. This is a vital position, requiring a candidate with a strong background in public sector or property-related financial management.
