Job summary

Sewell Wallis Ltd is seeking a technically strong Financial Accountant to join our Sheffield team. This role reports to the Financial Controller and focuses on hands-on management accounting and financial reporting, with emphasis on accuracy, deadlines, and process improvements.

ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualification (or part-qualified) is preferred. The ideal candidate will operate independently, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and contribute to annual budgets, VAT reporting, and audits.

Qualifications

• Qualified accounting professional (ACCA/ACCA/CIMA) or part-qualified considered.
• Ability to work autonomously and with others.
• Excellent communication skills with finance and non-finance colleagues.
• Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivots).

Responsibilities

• Assist with month-end close, management accounts, inventory valuations, balance sheet reconciliations and reporting.
• Review finance systems and processes to improve efficiency and data accuracy.
• Assist with budgets and forecasts reporting.
• HMRC VAT reporting and other compliance tasks.
• Support internal and external audits.
• Monitor AR & AP ledger balances and maintain integrity of ledgers.
• Support delivery of departmental business plans and provide cover for Financial Controller.

Sewell Wallis are working with a fast-growing, innovative company based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, in their search for a Financial Accountant.

This Financial Accountant role will report to the Financial Controller, with the primary focus geared towards hands on involvement with all aspects of management accounting and financial reporting. This opportunity is geared towards a technically strong candidate, preferably fully ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified and would suit a first mover from practice or someone with equivalent industry experience.

What will you be doing?

• Assist with full month end close process, including management accounts, inventory valuations, balance sheet reconciliations and all other reporting, ensuring completion within strict group reporting deadlines
• Regularly review finance systems and processes, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and data accuracy
• Assist with preparation and reporting of budgets & forecasts
• HMRC Reporting, including submission of VAT reporting
• Support with various internal and external audit requirements
• Regular reviews and reporting of AR & AP ledger balances
• Oversee the accuracy and integrity of the accounting ledgers
• Support delivery of departmental business plan
• Provide adequate cover to the Financial Controller as necessary

What skills will you need?

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA Qualified (Part Qualified candidates will also be considered)
