Job summary

Alexander Daniels Finance Recruitment is partnering with a growing Leicestershire distribution business to recruit a commercially minded Financial Accountant. You will own key accounting processes, drive improvements, and work with senior leadership to shape financial performance.

Ideally you will be ACA/ACCA qualified with at least two years post-qualification experience in industry, strong ERP knowledge, and advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Produce management accounts through to final review, with detailed commentary.
• Manage cashflow and working capital.
• Own VAT compliance and reporting.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and controls.
• Act as ERP systems expert for the finance team.
• Oversee accruals, prepayments and journals postings.
• Oversee Accounts Payable to prevent backlogs.
• Partner with ops for timely invoicing and AR management.
• Manage intercompany balances and cross-charge arrangements.
• Support monthly forecasts and annual budgets.
• Assist with audits and third-party advisor relationships.
• Resolve complex accounting issues.
• Contribute to finance and business improvement projects.
• Develop and manage finance team members.

As the business continues to evolve, they're seeking a commercially minded Financial Accountant to play a pivotal role within the finance function and support the next stage of growth.

The Role

As Financial Accountant, you'll take ownership of key financial accounting activities while supporting business-critical decision-making across the organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Producing management accounts through to final review stage, including detailed commentary and analysis
• Managing cashflow and supporting working capital management
• Ownership of VAT compliance and reporting
• Reviewing and supporting balance sheet reconciliations
• Acting as the primary ERP systems expert for the finance team
• Reviewing accruals, prepayments and journal postings
• Overseeing Accounts Payable processes to ensure efficiency and prevent backlogs
• Partnering with operational teams to ensure timely invoicing
• Reviewing Accounts Receivable alongside the Credit Manager
• Managing intercompany balances and cross-charge agreements
• Reviewing payment runs and maintaining robust financial controls
• Producing monthly forecasts and supporting annual budgets
• Assisting with audit processes and third-party advisor relationships
• Resolving complex accounting issues
• Supporting and contributing to finance and business improvement projects
• Assisting with the development and management of finance team members

About You

We're looking for an accountant who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to thrive in a dynamic and changing business environment.

You’ll ideally have:

• ACA or ACCA qualification
• At least two years' post-qualified experience within industry
• Strong financial accounting experience
• Experience working within a medium-sized, fast-paced business
• Excellent ERP systems knowledge
• Advanced Excel skills
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
• A proactive and solutions-focused mindset
• The ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines
